Man remanded after city car chase

Belfast Magistrates Court

A Belfast man has been remanded in custody following a 90mph car chase through the west of the city.

Belfast Magistrates Court was told the car chase and arrest of Sean McKay, 23, of Downfine Gardens, followed a burglary in the south of the city.

Mr McKay spoke only to confirm he understood the charges of aggravated burglary, carrying a knife, car theft, resisting arrest and having cannabis.

Police said he was "highly intoxicated" and claimed he had been a passenger.

The charges followed the burglary of a house in Locksley Park and the theft of a car early on Friday.

A constable said there was no evidence to connect the accused to the burglary, but that they were awaiting results of forensic tests.

Police told the court it had been just three minutes between the incident being reported to the police and the car chase. Bail was refused.
