Match-fix claim players quizzed

The club at the centre of a match-fixing inquiry has questioned its players about the allegations.

Hawick Royal Albert was instructed by the Scottish Football Association to investigate after the team's 7-0 defeat by Huntly in the Scottish Cup.

Players were questioned at training on Tuesday night over the claims of match-fixing and irregular betting.

It is claimed several bets were placed predicting the exact scoreline and also that Hawick would concede a penalty.

Lothian and Borders Police has confirmed it is investigating a complaint of match-fixing.

Both the Scottish Football Association (SFA) and the Borders club have promised to co-operate fully with the inquiry.

SFA Chief Executive Gordon Smith said he hoped the allegations proved to be untrue.

However, he has pledged to take action against any club found guilty of such an offence.
