SRU calls inquiry over race abuse

Rugby ball

Boroughmuir's Lynton Brinck and Glasgow Hawks' George Oommen have been called to appear before the Scottish Rugby Union amid claims of racial abuse.

An independent disciplinary hearing has been called for 9 November after South African flanker Brinck was accused of making comments to Oommen.

It follows the Scottish Hydro Premier Division 1 match at Old Anniesland on Saturday 17 October.

A misconduct complaint has now been lodged against both players.

The players are being investigated under rules 13.3.3 and 13.3.8 of Scottish Rugby's disciplinary code.

Rule 13.3.3 relates to discriminatory language relating to religion, race, sex, sexual orientation, colour or national or ethnic origin.

Meanwhile, rule 13.3.8 relates to any breach of code of conduct.

Both back-row forwards will have to answer both charges.
