Morgan still cementing his place

Eoin Morgan believes he still has work to do to establish himself in the England one-day side, as their tour of South Africa gets under way.

The 23-year-old batsman swapped Ireland for England in May, and has since featured in the last 10 one-day games.

"I'll be trying to establish myself throughout the tour, but I'm far from established," he told BBC Radio 5 live.

"From a personal point of view I'd love to get some runs under my belt and contribute to a winning side."

Morgan's 12 one-day appearances to date have yielded three half-centuries, and the Dubliner has already done damage to South Africa, his unbeaten 67 from 34 balls helping dump the hosts out of the ICC Champions Trophy in September.

The Middlesex left-hander represented Ireland at international level until 2008, then made the switch to the England side ahead of the World Twenty20 tournament earlier this year.

"There's healthy competition for places," he admitted, with Kevin Pietersen still to return to the side having almost completed his recuperation from an Achilles injury.

It has been suggested the England captain will make his comeback on 17 November against South Africa A.

"That'll be a massive bonus to us," said Morgan, referring to Pietersen's return.

"We're two completely different players, and he's in a league of his own. I certainly look up to him, he's a fantastic cricketer and a hell of a one-day player.

"Andy Flower (the England team director) always encouraged me to be quite positive, which is when I play best. I play a natural, free-flowing game and, given the opportunity, I think I can come out and do a job."

However, Morgan's own ambitions extend beyond the one-day game.

"I don't see myself as just a one-day cricketer, I've bigger ambitions," he stated.

"I want to play Test cricket - it's the ultimate. I'll hopefully be knocking on the door quite soon, but I don't set targets.

"You can only do what you can with the circumstances put in front of you."

England's tour includes two Twenty20 internationals, five one-day internationals and four Test matches, alongside four other tour matches.
