Thompson wants more SPL influence

Dundee United chairman Steven Thompson believes Scottish Premier League clubs should have a greater say within the Scottish Football Association.

"The problems I think we have are right at the very top - in the SFA," Thompson told BBC Scotland.

"The SPL has only one member out of nine on the board of the SFA.

"The game hasn't changed for years. It needs to change from the top and it's up to the SPL clubs to get together to try to have a bigger say."

Thompson would like to see a restructuring of how the game is governed in Scotland, arguing that the SFA, SPL and Scottish Football League represent too many cooks.

He is also calling for the nation's lower leagues to be reorganised on a regional basis.

"We have three powers running things," he explained. "We should only have two.

"I would certainly like to see two regional leagues - north and south. To have Peterhead going to Stranraer is just madness."
