"Loving it" in Cardiff

Kyle Nash

"Yeah, I'm loving it. I don't care who hears. I'm loving it!"

Kyle Nash's Northland Flyers team, formed from the Salvation Army Cardiff's homeless shelter, had won one and lost two of their first three games, but, buoyed by a killer R'n'B solo performance in the open-mic session , an indifferent record on the pitch was certainly not denting his day.

"Yeah, it's alright. There's some good stuff here," agreed team-mate Jamie Lee.

Jamie's day got even better as one of the participants to complete his loyalty card, taking part in boxing, basketball, visiting funders he landed himself two tickets to see Wales take on Russia at the Millennium Stadium generously donated by the FA of Wales.

Between helping Dynamic to the final of the girls' competition, Hannaa Zaman pulled on a pair of pink boxing gloves to turn her hand to yet another sport.

"It was the first time I had done it, but, yeah, it was really good," she said.

A Welsh international cricketer and qualified cricket coach, she had also dropped into the yellow funding tent to check out some of the options on offer there.

"I want to do youth work based around my cricket coaching, so it was good to be able to see what funds were about. It was definitely helpful," she said.

Some of the stars of the day never even kicked a ball in anger at all. The Academy cheerleading troupe, fresh from success at the Future Cheer championships in Brighton, brought some orange and blue razzmatazz to the day and scooped a deserved female fairplay award for their energetic efforts.

"I've been doing it for seven years since I was 11 and there are about 40 of us in total. We are all really good friends," said Kirstie Hetherton.

Joe Pascoe and Stefan Jeremiah

Fellow Academy member Chelsea Joseph had found a new passion after getting involved in the BBC Blast photography workshop.

"It was wicked. They gave us cameras and then let us just start taking action shots of the games going on," she said.

Stefan Jeremiah of Vale ASBOs, an aspiring DJ, was keen to get involved with the workshop run by BBC 1Xtra's Robbo Ranx.

"I'm more into the decks than the football really. I play hardstyle, hardcore, bit like DJ Kutski," he said.

Joe Pascoe was also feeling the music, giving lunchtime headliner Tinie Tempah the thumbs up.

"Yeah, I was impressed. I've seen Bashy and he was better than Bashy," he said.

Aaron Hood

Aaron Hood won the day's prize as the best boxer, and it wasn't the first time he had bashed the bag.

"I have done some training before, just a bit of sparring and stuff. It's a good laugh and I want to get my medical done and start to take it a bit more seriously," he said.

The sight of the pads drew out the aggression from Steph Williams from Bute 2YP.

"Its fun. They wind you up and you just want to batter them!" she said.

Finally Abdi Musa took time out from warming up with his skilful Bute Town side and told us exactly what we wanted to hear: "Its been a good day out. There's nothing else to do in Cardiff, put it on everyday!"
