Great Britain topped the medal table as the European Paralympic Swimming Championships ended on Saturday.

GB won six gold, six silver and three bronze medals on the final day of competition to take their tally to 39 gold, 32 silver and 23 bronze overall.

Those six gold medals included one for European record holder Jonathan Fox in the men's S7 100m backstroke.

"I just went out there wanting to do my best and I got a two second personal best. I'm really pleased," said Fox.

"I tried to go for the world record but I am really proud of what I have done and I am really proud to represent the team here," he added.

The other five gold medals came in the women's 34 point 4x100m freestyle relay, the men's SM8 200m individual medley, the men's 34 point 4x100m freestyle relay, the women's S9 100m freestyle and the women's S6 100m backstroke.

The women's victorious 34 point 4x100m freestyle relay team consisted of Stephanie Millward, Eleanor Simmonds, Lauren Steadman and Louise Watkin, with the quartet smashing the European record by 16 seconds.

GB secured all the places on the podium for the third time in the competition in the men's SM8 200m individual medley with Sam Hynd taking the gold.

"This is an absolutely fantastic feeling to have everyone on the podium," said Hynd.

"We all raced really well and it felt great having everyone sing the national anthem too."

The men's 34 point 4x100m freestyle relay saw the GB team of Matthew Walker, Graham Edmunds, Jonathan Fox and Robert Welbourn, seal another fine gold medal, holding off a late challenge from Spain to earn glory.

"The good thing about this team is that we are always up for the big events," said Edmunds.

Louise Watkin won her fourth European title in the women's S9 100m freestyle after beating team-mate Stephanie Millward to the touch.

"This is the best gold that I have won this week," Watkin said.

"This was the one that I was really hoping for."

Nyree Lewis became European Champion in the women's S6 100m backstroke after swimming well to take her first title of the competition.

Elsewhere, Heather Frederiksen and Emma Hollis won the silver and bronze respectively in the women's SM8 200m individual medley while Anthony Stephens finished his European Championships with silver in the men's S5 200m freestyle.

Lauren Hobbins won her second medal of the competition with silver in the women's S13 100m freestyle while Jim Anderson picked up a silver medal in the men's S2 50m backstroke.

Robert Welbourn won the bronze medal in the men's S10 100m freestyle.
